Writing the Next Chapter

In 2011, Monroe Public Library embarked on a project to clear the shelves of books that were outdated, in poor condition or had not been checked out in decades. This was done to make shelf room for newer selections and replacements of those that had deteriorated. The entire staff worked endless hours to accomplish this task.

To commemorate this endeavor and to pay a last tribute to the books that served the library for many years, an art piece was commissioned as a remembrance. The piece you see before you was created from a selection of the discarded books. Some of these contained illustrations and photos representative of an earlier generation. Some represent the extreme use of many years of enjoyment. Most of all, they show the vast quantity information, knowledge and variety that can be found in library books.
